Out and About Europe was founded by Johnny Layton, a longtime travel industry veteran, had always envisioned creating exceptional European experiences for the LGBTQ+ allies community.

The challenge was that there were already several tours focused on the LGBTQ community. Rather than compete, Johnny knew the opportunity lay in creating something meaningfully different.

Then came the breakthrough. Instead of traditional group tours, Johnny imagined a community-based travel experience: like-minded LGBTQ+ allies coming together in a vibrant European city for an extended stay.

Guests wouldn’t stay in hotels, but in their own modern apartments. Rather than follow a fixed itinerary, they’d have access to a local expert to help curate personalized experiences. A few times each week, the group would gather over happy hours or shared meals, or cultural activities, allowing connections and friendships to develop naturally.

And what if this all unfolded during Pride Month in cities around the world?

This led to a partnership with The Good Life Abroad, a community-based travel program that offers month-long programs for people 55+.
